The tradition-forming Újpest Dodgeball Cup was organised on 6th February 2019 at the gym of the Károlyi István High School. There were no ‘getting to know the game’ and ‘careful exploration’ phases, because serious fights took place at the court from the first moment, where 8 teams from 7 high schools of the district played against each other.
At the bronze medal bout, after a very close first half, the Csokonai High School confidently won the 3rd place against the Babits High School. At the finals, the – until then – undefeated Kozma Lajos Vocational High School and the Károlyi István High School met each other.

The hosts started the game better, they were leading by 8-4 after the first half, but after the court switch, the Kozma team, putting all their eggs in one basket, stormed and caught up with the Károlyi team. 90 seconds before the end, there was a 10-10 draw, meaning that the team that would win the last set, would be the champion of the Újpest Dodgeball Cup. In a very exciting game the Károlyi team managed to win and received the challenge cup,
2017-ben a Global Association of International Sports Federations, ami az olimpiai és nem olimpiai sportok közös szervezete, felvette a dodgeballt a tagjai közé.

Vasárnap lezajlott a IX. Kidobós Európa-bajnokság csoportjainak sorsolása. Férfi csapatunk a házigazda Olaszországgal, a legutóbbi EB-n ötödik Svédországgal és a 2016-os Világbajnokság elődöntőjében minden idők egyik legparádésabb kidobós mérkőzését játszó Wales csapatával került egy kvartettbe.
Vegyes csapatunk a házigazdákon kívül, Írországgal és Svájc válogatottjával küzdhet meg október végén a továbbjutásért.
A hétvégén Muraszombaton játszottunk felkészülési mérkőzéseket az Európa-bajnoki bronzérmes Szlovén válogatottal. A Magyar Kidobós Csapatnak ez volt az első nemzetközi találkozója. Köszönet a szívélyes vendéglátásért a házigazdáknak és a támogatásért a Market Zrt-nek.
Egy újabb sporttörténelmi pillanatra kerül sor most vasárnap délután Muraszombaton. Az első nemzetközi mérkőzésünkön az Európa-bajnoki bronzérmes Szlovén Kidobós Válogatottal találkozunk. Tanulni megyünk, de nem feltett kezekkel. Hajrá Magyarok!
By way of Krista Leveleky of the Australian team, the World Championships had yet again a participant and medallist of Hungarian ancestry, this time in New York. We’ve had a little chat with her about preparing for the event and her overall experiences.

* First of all, congratulations for your results on the Dodgeball World Cup. As the only Hungarian-related player of the World Cup. – Thank you, we were of course hoping for the first place but are still very happy with bronze.
* When was the decision made that you can take part on the World Cup with the Australian team? – Trials for the Australian Dodgeball team (Dodgeroos) started in December 2017 and the final squad was announced in April 2018.
* What was the reaction from your friends and family? – My friends and family and myself were so excited to hear I had made the team especially since this is my first time representing my country at an international competition.

* Was it easy to train together?How the team prepared for the World Cup? – The Dodgeroos were lucky in a way this year because the entire squad is from the same state of Australia so this meant is was quite easy for us all to train together. We trained once or twice a week every week leading up to the World Cup. The training included fitness, strategy and skill development.
* What do you think about the level of games on the World Cup? – I was so excited to play in the World Cup and to play against the top nations in our sport. The level of competition was really tough.
* What do you think about the opponents? – I was most excited to see how we play against the Austrian team because they were really strong opponents.
* Which was your favourite match? – My favourite match was against Singapore because that was my international debut and we played extremely well. It’s a match I won’t forget.

* What was the most memorable moment on the World Cup? – So that’s also my most memorable moment as well as walking out in Madison Square Garden, the worlds most famous sporting arena for our first match against Canada.
* Do you have any message to the Hungarian Dodgeball Team? – Train hard on and off the Dodgeball court – diet and gym can make a huge difference. Good luck!
Ma éjszaka a döntőkkel végetértek a küzdelmek a II. Dodgeball Világbajnokságon New Yorkban. Az európaiak dominanciáját jól mutatja, hogy mind három kategóriát sikerült megnyerniük és a kilenc érmes csapatból csak kettő nem erről a kontinensről érkezett.
A férfiaknál már az elődöntőben sor került a két évvel ezelőtti finálé visszavágójára, de most Malajzia óriási küzdelemben 15-13 arányban legyőzte a címvédő Angliát.
A bronzmérkőzésen az ellenfél csalódottságát kihasználva az Észak-írek szerezték meg a győzelmet (15-13). Míg a döntőben az Osztrák Sasok lerohanták a fáradt Maláj Tigriseket (8-0, 10-2), akik ugyan a második félidőre összekapták magukat, de ez már csak az eredmény kozmetikázására volt elegendő (15-11). A sógorok ezzel történetük legnagyobb sikerét aratva világbajnokok lettek.
