An amazing match in the quarter-finals

In the quarter-finals we played against the World and European Champion Austria, and, against the odds, we played a very close match with the team.

The first two sets went according to expectations (0-4), but then something happened and the real battle started. The Hungarian National team did not only broke even, but seven and a half minutes before the end took the lead for 12-10.

The world’s best team, for the first time during the tournament, had to request a timeout to get their ducks in a row and they succeeded. There was no big sensation at the end, Austria turned over the match with 16-12 and they kept up their momentum for the rest of the games too. They beat the Italians in the semi-finals (18-14) and the Czech team in the finals (18-12).

The Hungarian Dodgeball team finished at 6th place in the end.

The Hungarian Dodgeball Team advances

We did everything we could to prepare with two trainings a week and a visit to Zagreb, but the whims of Fate have overturned the scrips. We are here, albeit with diminished numbers, and will fight for our teammates stuck at home.
After the opening, in order to get familiar with the courts, we played a scrimmage against The Netherlands, which we won 16-12.

In our first match, we tied 13-13 against Switzerland. We had a rough start, but managed to catch up to our hosts.

In our second qualifier match we faced Italy, who placed 5th during the latest European Championships.

Nagyon szoros szettekel végül 10-18-as vereséget szenvedtünk.

Ezzel hatodikként jutottunk a CEC 2020 legjobb nyolc csapata közé. Vasárnap 9.50-kor a negyeddöntőben az osztrákok második csapatával játszunk.
Köszönjük a helyszíni szurkolást a Genfből érkező magyaroknak.

Az év első dodgeball versenye

We didn’t have to wait long for the first – and we didn’t yet know, but the last – dodgeball game of 2020. On 6th January, at Kisújszállás, the Kossuth Dodgeball Cup was held for the first time, where teams in two age groups participated.

After fair and exciting games, to many people’s surprise, two 5th class boy teams made it to the finals, where class 5C managed to win in a very close game against 5A’s boy team.

As a bonus, the winners got the chance to play against the teachers’ team, where, although the kids were very persistent, at the end the routine and practice helped the teacher team to win at the countryside’s first Youth Cup.

Eszterházy Dodgeball Cup

Three days later, the university dodgeball fights continued at Eger, where the Eszterházy Dodgeball Cup – that has a long heritage – was first organized with the rules of the international 5-ball dodgeball.

The Globo-Gym Lila Kobrák team did not even give a chance to their opponents and won the tournament undefeated. Another interesting fact about the cup was that for the first time, even the professors participated with a team..

We gladly come, as everyone can see that the atmosphere is great. Some people, for example, only come to cheer on the teams and have fun. I think that this event is a great example for the student initiatives having ‘present and future’. We are in this lucky situation that our university has outstanding sport values and the Institute of Sport Science absolutely supports these initiatives.

BEFS Universitas Dodgeball Cup

Together with the Corvinus University and the BEFS, on the 23rd November 2019, we organized the first dodgeball tournament for Hungarian higher education institutions, it was held at the gym of the Corvinus University’s Kinizsi Dormitory.

The finals of the tournament had a fantastic atmosphere, where the all-day dominating Corvinus Slepp team made it obvious to the likewise confident Corvinus Kék Dönci Team that they were the only ones who could win the winners’ cup that day.

Zsuzsanna Csenki Györgyné Varga, the member of the ‘65 World Cup winner female handball team gave out the medals to teams on the podium.
